EA, Jagex, and Miniclip broke loot box advertising rules

The UK's Advertising Standards Authority has upheld complaints against EA, Jagex, and Miniclip for failing to disclose the presence of loot boxes in their adverts.

The complaints were filed to the ASA by researcher Leon Y. Xiao, who has previously conducted studies on the effectiveness of Belgium's loot box ban and the consistency of loot box warnings on games.

Xiao's complaints challenged ads by EA, Jagex and Miniclip for being "misleading because they omitted material information" - the presence of loot boxes - in paid promotions on Facebook. Current ASA guidance states advertising must make it clear if loot boxes exist in a game, with a notification on store pages at a minimum.

Red Dead Redemption 2 gets first proper update in 18 months

Rockstar Games has issued a fresh update for Red Dead Redemption 2 - the game's first meaningful patch in 18 months. But, to the disappointment of fans, there's sadly no new content and no sign of any visual upgrades for players on newer console hardware.

Title Update 1.32 is available to download for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game, and includes "general fixes" for Red Dead Online plus a list of general bugs that have been squashed. Voice chat now defaults to off, patch notes state. On PC, there's now support for HDR10+ Gaming on compatible displays.

Rockstar's previous major patch for the game - Title Update 1.31 - was the last to add new content. It launched in September 2022, with just a handful of minor maintenance updates since. Even before then, Red Dead players had complained about its small dollops of DLC in comparison to the far larger expansions that regularly shipped for Rockstar's hugely-profitable GTA Online.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection gets first patch following troubled launch

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection did not have a good debut. On its release, players were met with a myriad of bugs and limited servers for each platform, resulting in many asking for a refund. The collection currently sits with an "Overwhelmingly Negative" review average on Steam.

Aspyr acknowledged the poor launch state soon after the collection was released, stating it had "experienced critical errors", and would work to address the many issues. Now, it is starting to make good on that promise, with the first major patch for its Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.

This patch aims to address a multitude of issues across multiplayer, audio and visuals, many of which really should have been ready at launch. It is available now for those on Steam, with Aspyr saying it is still in the submission and certification process for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles.

Destiny 2 reveals a horde mode

Destiny 2 developer Bungie has announced Onslaught, a new horde mode for the game. The offering is set to arrive for all players on 9th April, as a core component of Destiny 2's upcoming Into the Light update.

Onslaught is a three-person wave-based activity set on a selection of familiar but slightly-tweaked Crucible maps, where you and your allies must defend a war asset from taking too much damage. The aim is to protect the asset and keep each other alive for as long as possible.

Between waves, you can quickly acquire and place down a series of defensive options, including turrets, tripwires, and - brilliantly - a decoy Sweeper Bot, which will happily soak up bullets while tidying away debris.
